At the end of the 19th century, the Old Market of Omaha, Nebraska, would have been the ideal place to shop if you were looking for a railroad car full of fruit. This warehouse center on the west bank of the Missouri River was once a major link between the East and West. When the railroad era came to a close in the mid-20th century, the influential Mercer family had the vision to renovate the district’s red brick warehouses and usher in a new era for the Old Market. Today, art galleries, coffee bars, pubs, and shops occupy this historic district.
