This is an incredibly high quality coat with an incredibly high price tag. I often feel when I purchase luxury items from well-known brands that a lot of the price is for a logo and marketing, rather than for the quality. I can understand why this coat is expensive, however, and it's not because of the name on the label. Rather, the luxury and quality is apparent in all aspects of the item, from the soft suede exterior, to the plush lining (especially pleasant in the handwarmer pockets), and in the little touches - the leather accents, the elk buttons, a sturdy brass zipper and the delightful smell of the material. Knowing that it's made of a single hide and hand-crafted by an experienced tailor (and in America, no less) makes it feel like a special item and not a mass-produced product.
I haven't worn the coat on a really cold day yet, but it's apparent that it totally blocks the wind, and seems to achieve the rare blend of high style and high comfort and function. My only criticism is that the pockets are small. I like to be able to store gloves, a stocking cap or even a scarf in a winter coat. But the two exterior pockets are barely big enough to hold individual gloves, and the small interior pockets are only large enough for a set of keys (and are not easy to access).
