Soft Leather but it lasts
The leather is very soft, but thick, and it has worn very well. I use it daily and find it to be very well designed and the perfect size. It doesn't look like much in the pictures here, but in person it looks fabulous - buttery soft, elegant, sophisticated.
I agree with another reviewer who calls for more colors! I'd also add that it could use some metal feet to protect the bottom, and the lining for the 3 pockets is all the same color. Due to the design of the bag, I can sometimes mistake the outside pocket for the inside of the bag. If the lining on the outside pocket was a different color, it would help solve this minor issue. These are tiny things, however, my overall recommendation is to get this bag!
