I found a cool new hat for Spring at Overland
I stopped in to Overland in Santa Fe (my local store) with the thought in mind of just finding a new hat. I'm a hat gal, but I've got a ton of Western style hats and I was hoping for something a little different. To my delight, I no sooner stepped inside the doors of Overland when I saw directly in front of me a stack of hats that perfectly fit the mental order I'd put in! I started trying them on and one of the associates told me that had literally JUST put those hats out on display - they just came in. Perfect! The hats came in shades of brown, grey, black and navy (if I recall correctly), and they came in distressed leather and in suede. I really wanted one of the grey suede one, truth be told, but could not find that color/style in my size. And the sizes were a little tricky - trying on is somewhat of must with these, as the sizes did not seem consistent. So I went with a grey distressed leather cap, my second choice, and happily went on my way with excactly the kind of new hat I was looking for!
These hats are sometimes called Engineer Caps as they look like the old Train Engineer's style. They also look like Civil War military caps to me, and they have a few other names. It's a flattering style and works on a small face like mine very well.
I would definite recommend the hat - very well made as we come to expect from Overland, and not the typical cotton in this style - very elegant. I may yet buy a suede one if I find the fit next time I'm in Overland!
I'm never disappointed when I go to Overland - the quality and the expansive selection are to die for.
My only caveat would be that buying this particular hat online could be a little tricky on the size issue. Best to buy in person if you can. Otherwise, give it your best guess.
