Telluride is a Victorian mining town at an elevation of 8,745 ft., located off U.S. Highway 145 on the scenic San Juan Skyway in Southwest Colorado. Hundreds of abandoned mines are scattered throughout the area, once producing silver, gold, lead, zinc, and copper. Of these, the Tomboy, Sheridan, Alta, Liberty Bell and Smuggler Union are the most notable. Considered the summer festival capital of the Rockies, Telluride offers many events throughout the summer. Every weekend you'll find a different reason to visit: the Bluegrass Festival, Wine Festival, Mushroom Festival, Fourth of July, Balloon Festival, and the world-famous Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day Weekend. One of the most challenging ski mountains in the world, world class Telluride Ski Resort offers 700 acres of new terrain to ski. Telluride Mountain Village Golf Course—at 9,500 feet—is one of the highest 18-hole championship golf courses, measuring 6,739 yards with a par of 71. Telluride is within driving distance of Durango and the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Mesa Verde National Park, and Four Corners National Monument. |
